A friend of mine that used to work at the hotel with me has a brother that works for Warner Bros called Robert Shepherd, who is also the son of my Dads friend. When I found out about this I was excited I heard there was a local studio based around the Wilmslow area who have worked on some of the Harry Potter films. I was initially surprised to hear there was a Warner Bros studio in the local area, and my first instinct was that it was a VFX company. I haven't been able to find any information about this studio from the Internet, but after speaking to Robert's sister, she gave me details of how to contact Robert.
I spoke to him on the 29th of April on the phone, and was asking if there was any possibility of being able to come and visit to have a chat with him and show some work. It was during this conversation he told me that the company actually does the games design work, which from what I learnt from my experience with TT games, could be a problem as they tend to only speak to students with a games design background. He did say that he would be interested in getting one of his 3D designers to take a look at my work, but unfortunately due to busy engagements he could only really look at my work via email, which is a little disappointing but still a great opportunities.
Here is the email I have sent to Robert -
Hi Rob,
Thank you for offering the time to take a look at my portfolio. I really appreciate it. Any feedback you could give me would be great. Here is the web link to my YouTube Site -

e4 Ident
This brief was about designing an ident for a T.V. channel. I decided to use E4 as the channel has an entertaining and fun theme, which I thought would be interesting to work with. I modeled the logo creating a solar eclipse to create an epic and powerful feel to the channel.
Bungee Jumping Sellotape
This one is still a work in progress, but is the animation I am most proud of. The brief was to design and develop a character and to give it life via animation. I wanted to create a character that was unique and original, so I began by playing around listing objects, activities and emotions to see if I could create any interesting patterns. The idea I developed was sellotape being too afraid to bungee jump. I worked long and hard on creating the model for the characters and getting the textures to look real. The hardest part was to get the animation to make the sellotape look alive. I still need to work on the environment and sound effects to finish off this piece.
Rhythm of the City
The brief for this project was to create a video edit and sound composition to show the rhythms of a city. Whilst most people used film, I wanted to explore 3D again, so I created a minimalist city landscape to support my sound composition. The sound composition was created by various sounds you would experience in a city, which worked with music which I hoped create a mood of the early morning rush, urban nightlife and the peace of sleep.
Synaesthesia
This project was based on synaesthesia, which is when a person's senses are mixed. For example, they can read a word and suddenly taste chicken in their mouth, even though the word is completely unrelated. I have word colour associations. I can read a word and then visualize a colour. The aim of this brief was to represent this visual perception I have, which I made into a dream like sequence.

From talking to Robert, who said his workers are currently under a lot of pressure to meet a deadline during this month, gives me the impression my email may be forgotten which would be disappointing as feedback from a Warner Bros designer I could imagine being very informative since it is such a major and well known company.
Unfortunately I haven't had any response from Rob in terms of professional practice deadline, but I do hope I eventually get some feedback. It would be great if some point over the summer I was able to go any visit and learn a bit about the gaming industry and talk to the 3D designers about the work they do. Rob is a contact I have made though people I know so the door is not completely closed.
